About Me: Jerry Hall

Getting into the “wine business” was the result of losing interest or failing at several occupations. I took a degree from Vanderbilt in Chemical Engineering as well as a Marketing MBA. I’ve worked in a beef packing house, a Shell Oil petrochemical plant, a Procter & Gamble product development lab and even tried my hand at selling truck accessories off a gravel lot for several years. Then in 2000 I went to work part-time as a night cashier at Frugal MacDoogal’s, a large wine and liquor store in Nashville, to learn about the business.

Meantime I also pursued my lifelong passion, photography. In 1998 I began the process of teaching myself how to design code and publish web pages, a process that continues. This allowed me to eventually become Frugal’s web guy and email marketer and discover the blog format.

Nowadays in addition to working free-lance in the wine business, I travel extensively across the US and Canada as a sign industry “consultant” inspecting and photographing the quality of signs being produced for hotel and restaurant properties. My client is Nashville-based Sign Resources and lately my assignments have been for Intercontinental Hotels Group, parent of Holiday Inn/Express, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Staybridge Suites, Candlewood Suites and Intercontinental.

For the past 7 years, I have been the web guy for Diamond Gusset Jeans; one of the very few USA made apparel companies remaining. The product is unique because of the gusset sewn into the crotch of the jean which allows for greater comfort and freedom of movement. The target market is motorcycle riders which are a growing and enthusiastic consumer base. In conjunction with their site, www.gusset.com, I have developed a blog called Diamond Biker, which currently has some great photos of last August’s Sturgis Bike Rally.

My services are available and inquiries are welcome. Email me at taste@winewaves.com or call my office at 615-469-4618.

When there is time, I shoot “street scenes”, travel photography, portraits and nature photography. I still have a fondness for good old Kodak Tri-X black & white film, although I shoot primarily digital these days. Lately I’ve been photographing out the windows of Southwest Airlines 737’s because I find myself riding on them so often.

My photos have appeared many times in the Nashville Scene, as well as Beverage Dynamics magazine, other wine industry publications and Southwest Airlines Spirit magazine.

I reside in Nashville and like many locals I like to pick up a guitar any time I find time. I don’t play well but it is good therapy.

Because I love good food and wine I stay in shape by jumping rope, typically 3000-4000 jumps 5 times a week. This method of exercising I discovered nearly ten years ago, and has proven to be my favorite and it is easy to take with me on the road. Want to support Winewaves while improving your aerobic conditioning? Buy the Buddy Lee Hyperperformance Jump Rope through Amazon.com using this link. I've tried them all and this is the world’s best jump rope. It is fast, comfortable, lightweight, easy to adjust, durable, and spare parts are available. It is the official jump rope of the USA Olympic Team!
