When we describe our belts as hand-oiled, it's true. They're each oiled by hand, by a real person, in Texas. But why? You might ask.
Diamond Gusset belts are made with top grain cowhide - lucky for you. Hand oiling them gives these belts a beautiful luster when they're new. And, it's essential to protect the grain. If the belt is scratched, you can rub the scratch and the oils will cause the scratch to vanish, like a good shoe-shine.
The oil is actually a proprietary blend of oil and wax. Years of experience have led to the discovery of this perfect blend. Leather deteriorates when it dries out. Our combination of oils and waxes, combined with the way we apply them, allows your Diamond Gusset belt to live nearly forever. The oils penetrate into the fiber and grain of the leather, saturating them.
That keeps the belt rich for years. However, you may not be used to this luxurious oiling. You might be alarmed or think there is a problem if you notice some dark oily residue on your hands or the waist band of your jeans. Don't worry. It's a good sign. Normal machine washing removes it. No need for stain remover or any such drastic measures.
Hand oiling is a good thing. A little residue just means your belt is even better protected.
